The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is one of the most recognized and prestigious educational institutions in Mexico and Latin America. Here is a brief history of UNAM:

• UNAM was founded on September 22, 1910, shortly after the start of the Mexican Revolution. Originally, it was called the National University of Mexico and it was created with the objective of being an institution that promoted higher education and research in Mexico.

• During its early years, UNAM faced various challenges, including financial and political problems. However, it managed to establish itself as a renowned institution thanks to the work of leading intellectuals and academics.

• In 1929, UNAM acquired the name of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and was granted autonomy, which meant that it had the freedom to make its own academic and administrative decisions, without interference from the government or other institutions.

• Throughout its history, UNAM has played an important role in the development of higher education, science, technology, the humanities, and the arts in Mexico. It has been the cradle of great Mexican thinkers, scientists and artists who have left a significant legacy in their respective fields.

• UNAM has a wide academic offer that covers numerous disciplines, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medicine, arts and more. In addition, the university has played an active role in scientific dissemination and the defense of human rights in Mexico.

• Regarding its facilities, UNAM has several campuses and faculties located in Mexico City and other states of the Mexican Republic. Its main campus, known as Ciudad Universitaria, is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is an emblematic place in the city.

• In summary, the National Autonomous University of Mexico is an institution with a rich history and an important legacy in higher education and research in Mexico. Its autonomy and academic excellence have positioned it as one of the most outstanding universities in Latin America.

THE CENTRAL LIBRARY OF THE UNAM

• Juan O'Gorman, renowned Mexican architect and muralist, left an important legacy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) through his murals. O'Gorman is known for his distinctive style and his commitment to representing Mexican history and identity in his work. Next, I will mention two of his most outstanding murals at UNAM.

• UNAM Central Library: The Central Library is one of the most emblematic buildings of UNAM and has a monumental mural by Juan O'Gorman. This mural, which is located on the main façade of the building, is titled "History of culture in Mexico" and represents the history of Mexico from pre-Hispanic times to the present day. O'Gorman used an abstract style and vibrant colors to capture the country's cultural diversity and historical evolution.
